Jason Atherton’s Soho 1* is deformalised fine dining done formidably well
- Wild mushrooms from a bag
Cep purée on toast
- Salt-baked Jerusalem artichoke, Iberico de Bellota
Arlington White egg, Langres, barbucine, Spring truffle
- Roast rump of Salt Marsh lamb, braised neck
Baby gem, cured lamb, Seirass, rocket
Of all the Jason Atherton restaurants in London, and he really has built an empire for himself now with over 15 restaurants worldwide and a number of Michelin stars under his belt, Social Eating House is my favourite. It’s not as grand as Berners Tavern, nor does it have the views of City Social or the sense of occasion at the flagship Pollen Street Social, but the cooking here is confident and the vibe one of subdued luxury to hide away in. The music can sometimes be a bit loud and potentially as a result the service is not quite consistent. It’s fine dining without the stuffiness and formality but the same attention to detail when it comes to the cooking with dishes being well presented and rich in its combinations.
A highly recommended restaurant that I often take visitors to. Drop in to Milk & Honey next door for a digestif afterwards.
